Northern Territory Council of Social Service Inc - Association of Alcohol and other Drugs Association (AADANT) Coordinator
The Northern Territory Council of Service Inc (NTCOSS) is a peak body for the Northern Territory social and community service sector and an advocate for those who are most disadvantaged. NTCOSS is currently seeking an Alcohol and other Drug Coordinator. This is an NT wide position.
Position Purpose: Facilitating input from AOD sector organisations, including those in regional and remote centres in the Northern Territory, to social policy development and advocacy, including input into Government reviews and consultative processes. Facilitating the development of partnership opportunities between the Department of Health and the AOD sector
Position Reports to: Executive Director NTCOSS and the AADANT Steering Committee
Position Location: 33 Bayfield St Malak NT with Territory wide and interstate travel
Industrial Instrument: The Fair Work Act 2009 and the Northern Territory Council of Social Service Incorporated Enterprise Agreement 2010 (NTCOSS EA)
Terms of Employment: Full Time (37.5 hours per week)
Salary level : $85 000 pa plus vehicle
Other Basic Entitlements: 9% Superannuation paid to a fund of employee choice. 6 weeks annual leave at normal pay plus 17.5% leave loading. Grace leave for the working days occurring between Christmas and New Year public holidays, at normal pay.
Background to the position: For a number of years, NTCOSS and the AOD sector have called for funding for an AOD peak in the NT, which has continued to be the only jurisdiction without such a body. NTCOSS has been involved in significant alcohol related work including advocacy and policy development. In late 2011, the Department of Health agreed to fund an AOD peak body. Initially a position will sit with NTCOSS and it is intended the peak body (AADANT) will become separately incorporated within 3 years.
As well as performing the role of coordinating a peak body, the successful applicant will drive the process toward incorporation.
Statement of Duties:
Summary of main duties to be performed, listed with equal priority:
1. Facilitating input from AOD sector organisations, including those in regional and remote centres (Territory growth Towns) in the Northern Territory to social policy development and advocacy, including input into Government reviews and consultative processes.
2. Development of discussion papers, policy positions and a range of advocacy documents, such as submissions, identifying ADANT’s views. Representing these views and policies to government, the non-government sector and the media.
3. Work with AOD organisations to build their capacity to provide quality services to their clients.
4. Supporting the coordination of NT AOD sector organisations and promotion of best practice models, including acting as a resource regarding sector issues, policy updates and training needs
5. Working with the Department of Health to establish priority areas for consultation with the sector.
6. Contributing to National policy discussions including developing a relationship with the network of AOD peak body organisations.
7. Other relevant duties as requested by the NTCOSS Executive Director and the AADANT Steering Committee.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have:
- Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the policies, legislation, programs and issues impacting on the social and community AOD sector in NT
- Experience of working within the community sector with links to NT AOD networks
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills; and the ability to prepare reports, submissions, budgets and discussion papers in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to work to a steering committee/board along with a willingness to work in a collaborative and flexible environment
- Well developed and current knowledge of NGO sector issues in the NT
- The ability to self-manage while at all times upholding high ethical standards
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice principles
- A current drivers licence
- A current Northern Territory police clearance and working with children’s card
